Because people are on the move so much, tablets and smartphones are becoming the web platform of choice. The common web standard is moving towards mobile adaptability and accessibility so most people are becoming used to websites adapting to their devices and fitting perfectly.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to design a whole new website (although that might be useful if it’s several years old), you simply need to adapt it to work on newer, smaller screens. You can keep the same content, same color scheme, and even the same basic layout and throw it into a smaller viewport with some small tricks.
