Hello friends, something amazing happened this week, we got sent home from work due to snow!
This was the real deal, Val called and said “we’re shutting down the office, tell everybody”, then she rolled in from her meeting and closed the place. It turns out she was tired from rocking out to Bon Jovi the night before, but we didn’t know that and took it as genuine kindness and concern.
Now, I haven’t had this happen since I was a kid in school. I’ve taken days off to go skiing when I lived in Steamboat, but it was a hassle talking my boss into it (he didn’t believe in the powder clause). I’ve had snow days off while helping my dad on construction projects, but that involves a few hours of scooping and a heavy dose of guilt, he would inevitably say “There’s got to be something we can do around here.”
Anyway, when you have two kids and never get a minute to yourself you’ll take any extra time you can. So, I went fishing.
It may seem like a really stupid idea to go fishing on a day that nasty, but in all actuality, it is a really stupid idea. It was cold, windy and wet, and to top it off I didn’t even get a bite. I loved every minute of it!
I use to dream of doing stupid stuff like that as a kid, being out in the elements, pushing my limits and most of all fishing, wherever and whenever I want, I love fishing.
So, since it’s against my principles to be productive on a declared snow day, I spent it in the middle of a freezing cold lake in my belly boat fighting the wind and the waves.
The next day, when it was time to go back to work, I felt old, tired and sore.
It was so worth it.
See you next week Northern Colorado
